What it requires
regs 13/15 — principal contractor plans, manages and monitors the construction phase; contractors likewise for their own work. reg 22(4) — no work in a supported or battered excavation unless inspected by a competent person at start of shift, after any event affecting stability, and after any unintentional fall of material. reg 24 — the inspection must be reported. reg 25(4) — suitable and sufficient steps to prevent risk from underground services. reg 7 — where the client is a domestic client, the client duties in regs 4(1) to (7) and 6 are carried out by the contractor where there is only one contractor, by the principal contractor where there is more than one, or by the principal designer where there is a written agreement that it will; if a domestic client fails to make the reg 5 appointments, the designer in control of the pre-construction phase is the principal designer and the contractor in control of the construction phase is the principal contractor; reg 5(3) and (4) do not apply to a domestic client.
