Contract Checklist for Homeowners

A checklist for a homeowner reading a builder's written contract before signing. Each item is ticked present, missing or not relevant, with the clause and a note: the parties, the work and drawings, the price and VAT, payment stages, deposit and retention, dates, delays and changes in writing, who deals with planning, building control, party wall notices and CDM, insurance, site rules, clearing up and waste, completion, snagging, certificates and guarantees, complaints and dispute resolution, and the cancellation information and form for a contract made at home. It says which terms cannot take away a consumer's rights. A checklist, not a contract, and not legal advice.

What it is not

It is not legal advice, it is not insurance, and it cannot make a builder or a neighbour do anything. It explains what the law in England and Wales says and gives you a clear record. For free advice on your own situation, ring the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133.

Format

AcroForm fillable PDF. Every field has a tooltip. Tab order follows the reading order. Works on desktop and mobile, in Adobe and non-Adobe readers.
