HSE HSG168 — Fire safety in construction (3rd edition, 2022)

Provisions the documents cite: paras 118–132 (hot works; permit-to-work systems at 127–132)

What it requires

Design out hot works where possible; where unavoidable, manage under a formal PTW system (para 127). Para 129 lists what a hot-work permit should contain (location and nature of work, time and duration, permit validity limits, precautions before/during/after, alarm procedure, person in control, person authorising and closing). Fire-watch expectations: continuous watch for at least an hour after hot work ends plus a further check two hours after, and hot works complete two hours before end of the working day. Higher-risk buildings: hot works justified to the PD/PC and run under a strict PC-controlled PTW system.

How this entry is kept current

  • Citation status: read in full at the primary source.
  • Watched by: page hash + edition check.
  • Source last checked by the automated scan: 2026-09-01.

Every source is re-checked monthly and the result is published in the scan log. A change that alters what a document should say raises a revision, and past buyers of that document are told.
