What it requires
Approved Code of Practice and guidance on controlling legionella risk in water systems; the duties it supports are COSHH 2002 reg 6 and HSWA 1974 ss.2 and 3. The fourth edition gives ACOP status to risk assessment, the role of the appointed competent person known as the responsible person, the control scheme and what it should include, review of control measures, and the duties of those who supply water systems and services; the technical guidance moved to HSG274. Relevant where mechanical work fills, flushes, commissions or leaves water systems stagnant, and to a legionella risk assessment of premises.

How this entry is kept current
- Citation status: cited from the primary source.
- Watched by: HSE publication page — check series code and edition line at each monthly horizon scan.
- Source last checked by the automated scan: 2026-09-01.
Every source is re-checked monthly and the result is published in the scan log. A change that alters what a document should say raises a revision, and past buyers of that document are told.
