Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

Provisions the documents cite: regs 12, 13, 14, 16, with HSR25 (3rd edition, 2015); reg 4(1) and (2) (systems constructed and maintained to prevent danger)

What it requires

reg 13 — adequate precautions to prevent equipment made dead from becoming live during work. reg 14 — no live working unless the three conditions are met. reg 16 — competence. The Regulations do not require a permit; the permit is the industry means of demonstrating the precautions.

How this entry is kept current

  • Citation status: cited from the primary source.
  • Watched by: legislation.gov.uk Changes to Legislation tab; HSE HSR25 page for edition changes.
  • Source last checked by the automated scan: 2026-09-01.

Every source is re-checked monthly and the result is published in the scan log. A change that alters what a document should say raises a revision, and past buyers of that document are told.
