The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (SI 1992/2792)

Provisions the documents cite: regs 2 (analysis of workstations), 3 (requirements for workstations — the Schedule), 4 (daily work routine of users), 5 (eyes and eyesight), 6 (provision of training)

What it requires

reg 2 — every employer performs a suitable and sufficient analysis of the workstations used for its undertaking by users (whoever provided them) and those it has provided for operators, to assess the health and safety risks, reviews it where there is reason to suspect it is no longer valid or there has been a significant change, and reduces the risks identified to the lowest extent reasonably practicable. reg 3 — every workstation meets the requirements of the Schedule. reg 4 — users' activities are planned so that daily work on display screen equipment is periodically interrupted by breaks or changes of activity. reg 5 — at the request of a user, or a person about to become one, an appropriate eye and eyesight test by a competent person (as soon as practicable, or before the person becomes a user); further tests at regular intervals; a test on request where visual difficulties may reasonably be put down to display screen work; and special corrective appliances where normal ones cannot be used and the test shows them to be necessary. reg 6 — adequate health and safety training in the use of the workstation, before a person becomes a user, and again whenever the organisation of the workstation is substantially modified. The definitions (reg 1) and the Schedule were not read for this entry.

How this entry is kept current

  • Citation status: read in full at the primary source.
  • Watched by: legislation.gov.uk "Changes to Legislation" tab — not just the text view.
  • Source last checked by the automated scan: not yet — first scan pending.

Every source is re-checked monthly and the result is published in the scan log. A change that alters what a document should say raises a revision, and past buyers of that document are told.

Every KubitDocs document prints its statutory basis on the form itself, so the person signing can verify the citation rather than take our word for it.
